Countryside Heritage, Investigating Narratives and Approaches
PNRR M4C2: Dalla RICERCA all’IMPRESA
Acronym: CHINA
Description
CHINA research explores the role of heritage preservation in development interventions with the aim to develop maps and operational guidelines to urge heritage protection in rural cooperation and development actions.
In particular, the work focuses on rural development projects conducted by the People's Republic of China (PRC) in low and middle income Asian countries. Over the past two decades, the PRC has gained relevant experience in promoting rural heritage as a powerful development driver. Concurrently, the Chinese involvement in heritage diplomacy and transnational development projects has grown exponentially, becoming a model for many developing countries. This research observes how the PRC is exporting its development expertise and investigates the extent to which the heritage discourse promoted domestically is being mobilised, adapted and disseminated abroad and for which purposes.
