Description

Vernacular architecture is the result of centuries of progressive improvements and adaptations of building culture to environmental conditions, the availability of local resources and social constraints. However, vernacular earthen buildings in particular are today under threat throughout the world.

The EVER EARTH project aims to safeguard and promote the re-use of vernacular earthen architecture and to propose versatile intervention methodologies that can be replicated in similar contexts. In this perspective, it is of interest to analyse the situation in Piedmont (Italy), which is characterised by the presence of a rich earthen heritage and has hosted specific conservation and recovery interventions, thanks to the work of cultural associations and the enactment of regional law 2/2006. More than 15 years after its enactment, there is a need to assess the outcomes of the interventions carried out and capitalise on the results, but also to investigate the effects of the natural and anthropic risks to which the built in earth heritage is subjected and to outline strategies that favour its conservation and reuse. This is in line with the missions ‘Digitalisation, Innovation, Competitiveness, Culture and Tourism’ and ‘Green Revolution and Ecological Transition’ of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
