Cultural Heritage Conservation and Enhancement of urban and rural settlements along the Maritime Silk Road
Description
The purpose of this quinquennial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in 2019 by the CNR president is to establish a framework of strategic cooperation between Xiamen University, School of Architectural and Civil Engineering (China), CNR-DSU (Italy) and World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for the Asia and the Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (WHITRAP, China), for training, capacity building activities, and research.
These three partner institutions sharing a common interest on the role of culture and heritage as driving forces for sustainable development, the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development as well as the New Urban Agenda, aim to develop training and research programs in order to connect cultural heritage conservation and urban and territorial development initiatives and to create synergies locally and internationally between Italy and China and the Asia and Pacific Region. More specifically, the case studies selected regard the Yongding & Nanjing Tulou areas in Fujian region and the areas with qilou buildings of the historic core of Xiamen.
