The purpose of this project is to create a tool for documenting and using an important archaeological site in Montenegro.

The project is a collaboration between the National Museum of Montenegro and the CNR ISPC. The mentioned entities will collaborate to study on Medieval Cemeteries with large tombstones (Stećci) in Montenegro. These cemeteries, recently inscribed in the UNESCO’s World Heritage List, are located in 28 locations, spread in Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia. The tombstones (Stećci) were made between the second half of the twelfth century and the sixteenth century. They constitute an exceptional testimony to the spiritual, artistic and historical aspects of medieval cultures in south-eastern Europe. The Stećci are also known for their inter-confessionalism, used for burial purposes by all three medieval Christian communities, namely, the Orthodox Church, the Catholic Church and the Church of Bosnia.

This bilateral project aims to improve the Montenegrin site by increasing public accessibility, in particular for disabled people.
